Will the Lascaux Scientific Council remain "international" ? | ![]() |
We
have just learnt that the budget limitations imposed by the government
have led the Ministry of Culture and Communication reduce the the
amounts refunded to the members of the Lascaux Scientific Council for
their travel expenses incurred for their participation to the council
meetings. The refund is from now on limited to 60 € per hotel night and 15 € per meal. Knowing the prices offered by parisian hotels, it seems to us impossible to find in Paris, for 60 €, a correct housing acceptable in particular by foreign members of the council. And while a parisian can find decent food in an acceptable restaurant for 15 €, it is unlikely that a foreigner who does not know the city well could do that easily. Some foreign members of the council have indicated that, under these circumstances, that would no longer be able to attend the council meeting, considering that neither their governments, nor themselves, should have to bear the cost of their travel expenses for Lascaux. Taking into account the infinitesimal fraction represented by the housing and food expenses of the council members as compared to total budget devoted to Lascaux, it seems to us highly regrettable that the participation of foreign members to council meetings and their essential contribution to the work of the council should be challenged. The LIST therefore insistingly draws the attention of the authorities on the highly regrettable consequences of such tiny savings and asks them to reconsider their decision. |
